Ballarat - Sovereign Hill
Grandpa Gray and his friend Greg finally made it to Melbourne from New Zealand, so we started "touring" right away, and never stopped until they left. Their first day here, we took the train and spent the day downtown.
The second day they were here, we visited a town called Ballarat. From 1850-1870 Ballarat was a gold rush town. Sovereign Hill is an "open air" museum of the gold rush town that existed just outside Ballarat all those years ago. There are things such as blacksmiths, hoteliers, bakers, saloons, etc. all on "main street". All these stores and people are in full period dress and character. There is a working gold mine here too.

We watched this blacksmith pour gold! Riley was pulled from the audience to help prove it was real by how heavy it was!

I can't believe that grandpa had to go all the way to Australia to get his tooth worked on!
